The writer analyzes the types and&#xD; functions of metaphor found in English quotes. This study uses a qualitative&#xD; method. The data from this study were taken from the internet, Instagram, and&#xD; Pinterest. The writer applies Ullman and Ortony&#x2019;s theories for the types and&#xD; functions of metaphor. From the analysis of the data, the writer found several&#xD; types of metaphor, namely anthropomorphic, animal, from concrete to abstract,&#xD; and synaesthetic metaphor. The writer also found several functions of metaphor&#xD; which are expressing the inexpressibility of action, shorten the language, and&#xD; showing the vividness of emotional states.
