  • The paper studies the novel “Song of a Captive Bird” which tell about the main character who lives under the patriarchy culture and have to face the subordinate position. The study is focused on gender-based constraints in a patriarchal society. The purpose of the study is to discuss the resistance of women in a patriarchal culture and the patriarchal system in the novel. To get reach of that purpose, the study applies a qualitative approach based on feminism theory by Cuddon. J. A A Dictionary of Literary Terms and Literary Theory (1977), Feminist literary criticism is a way to analyse women’s lives and experiences which as portrayed in various kinds of literature. It will examine the male domination within the literature, the male image representation and also challenge women’s image that has been created by male writers (273). The result is that how the patriarchal society treated women is significant from the custom aspects. The resistance that the main character did in this novel is prominent from her poems. She make the poems to against the patriarchal until she can live as a free woman as she wants. Keywords: Iranian women, patriarchal society, resistance.
