Based on the aim above, the writer formulated the&#xD; problem: &#x201C;Is the clustering technique effective for students to improve their&#xD; writing recount text?&#x201D; To answer the formulation of the problem, the writer used&#xD; quantitative through experimental research analyzed with t-test. The population of&#xD; the research is the second grade students of SMP Budi Mulia Ciledug. It consists&#xD; of grade 8-4 and 8-1. Sample of the research was 35 students from each class 8-1&#xD; students were experiment class, and 8-4 students were control class.&#xD; The result of the study showed that there was improvement of the&#xD; students&#x2019; ability in writing recount text after applying clustering technique. Most&#xD; of the students of experimental class gradually gained good scores at the end of&#xD; study. The score of Minimum Mastery Criterion &#x2013; Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimum&#xD; (KKM) of English lesson was 70 (seventy). The students&#x2019; mean score of&#xD; experiment class and control class in pre-test was 60 (sixty).
