One type of biomass that can be used as renewable energy is sawdust from the wood processing industry has not been utilized optimally, therefore, is developing one of the methods to obtain alternative energy, namely by gasification of biomass. In the gasification of wood raw material powder Laban (Vitex pubescens Vahl) using this updraft system syngas generated particles still contain impurities that are not small, it is necessary to be added in the form of filter cleaning system using straw as filter media particle impurities in the syngas. Straw filter is applied in the process of updraft gasification system to determine its effect in reducing particle impurities in the syngas. This study aims to obtain optimum performance in filtering tar filter straw that brought together syngas based on variations in the mass density of the straw that will optimalize the density of filter in the filter tar straw that brought together syngas.
