  • Marriage in Indonesia is regulated in Law No. 1 of 1974 concerning Marriage which limits the age of marriage, namely a minimum of 19 years for men and 16 years for women. But in fact what happens in the community, there are a lot of children under the age that they should have taken education, but instead must have been married. This happens because they are related like husband and wife to get pregnant out of wedlock with an age that is not yet appropriate for marriage. From this background the writer takes the title of the thesis "Implementation of Law No. 1 of 1974 concerning Marriage Against Requests for Dispensation of Underage Child Marriage in Demak Regency" The issues discussed are: 1. How is the implementation of Law number 1 of 1974 concerning marriages against petition for dispensation of underage marriage in Demak Regency. 2. What efforts can be made in relation to the implementation of Law No. 1 of 1974 concerning marriage to the application for the dispensation of underage marriage in Demak Regency. The research method used consisted of: 1. Normative Juridical research type in which the researcher obtained data based on the facts of the Demak District Religious Court. 2. Research specifications using qualitative dextitive methods. 3. Data sources in the form of secondary data and primary data. 4. Data collection methods are by conducting observations, interviews and documentation. 5. Method of presenting data based on facts in the form of matrices, networks, carts and graphics. 6. Data analysis methods using qualitative descriptive analysis. From the results of the study concluded that: 1). Based on the facts that occur in the community, the application for Law number 1 of 1974 concerning marriage is not in accordance with what has been regulated in the law. Because in fact many child marriages that occur by applying for marriage dispensation in the Religious Courts in the region. 2). In terms of efforts made to reduce the growth of underage marriage, the first is the synergy of the community, community organizations and government institutions, because in this case all levels of society also play a very important role, as well as families and secondly the need for strengthening comprehensive sexual and reproductive health education for adolescents from an early age to provide understanding for adolescents. From the results of the study it can be recommended: a. In the case of the implementation of Law number 1 of 1974, the Government needs to review the provisions regarding the marriage age limit contained in the Act. b. In terms of suppressing the growth of the marriage of minors, it is expected that the role of the whole society and also the government.
