From new documents to the history of the Seversk region (17th–18th centuries) (part 18)

  • The purpose of this publication is to introduce into scientific circulation important documents created by Hetman of Ukraine Ivan Skoropadsky, Danylo Apostol, Kirill Razumovsky, a number of colonels and other Hetmanate elders, which allows to supplement «Ukrainian diplomatic papers of the XVI–XVIII centuries» – actual task of Ukrainian archeography. Various business documents of the Hetmanate (bill of sale, promissory notes, complaints, registers, etc.) are also published. In addition, the information capabilities of these sources are analyzed and particularly valuable evidence is found. Scientific novelty is closely linked to the above purpose, since for the first time the scientific, archival, non-printed sources are introduced, which are stored in the collections of the Institute of Manuscripts of the National V. I. Vernadsky Library of Ukraine, Central State Historical Archives of Ukraine in Kyiv, Archives of Poland (Archive of the Main Acts of Ancients in Warsaw, State Archives in Krakow, Museum of Czartoryski in Krakow) and for the first time important facts from the socio-economic, military-political and church history of Ukraine are established. ХVІІ–ХVІІІ centuries, аctivity of judicial bodies, daily life of the Ukrainian people. As a result of the study, knowledge of the military actions of the period Ruins, the Chigirin campaigns, diplomatic activity of Hetman Ivan Mazepa, about the participation of Ukrainians in the campaigns of the Russian army of the 18th century was supplemented. Particularly important is a group of documents relating to the Starodub region. This ethnic Ukrainian land is now a part of Russia, and every effort is made to erase the memory of its historical identity. In Ukraine itself, the history of the Starodub region was not studied for a long time, and now these studies are just beginning.
