We have not re-examined the type specimens (from Falcón State, Venezuela) but González-Sponga’s drawings show all the distinctive characters of this species (armature of chelicerae; shape of palp and of bulbal processes; shape of epigynal sclerites). In addition, Artema is an Old World genus, and A. atlanta is the only species that has attained a pantropical distribution (including numerous New World records, e.g. Walckenaer 1837; Blackwall 1858; Karsch 1879; Petrunkevitch 1929; Brignoli 1981).
