Bick (1964) found this species in marine and brackish waters, rarely in freshwaters. Euplotopsis affinis was recorded at many localities in the territory of Slovakia, especially, in standing and running waters: in a pit from the inundation zone of the Váh river (Matis 1968); in wet mosses from Slovenský raj (Slovak Paradise) (Tirjaková & Matis 1987); in the branch system of the Danube (Matis & Tirjaková 1992, 1995; Szentivány & Tirjaková 1994); in the main stream of the Danube (Tirjaková 1992 a); in Sphagnum from the Rojkovské rašelinisko peatbog (Tirjaková 1992 b); in the Turiec river (Krno et al. 1996); in streams of the &Zcaron;iarska kotlina basin and Slovenský kras (Slovak Krast) (Tirjaková 1997 a, 1998); in an acidified spring area from the Malé Karpaty Mts. (Tirjaková 1997 b; Tirjaková & Stloukal 2004) as well as in the spring area of the Dierový potok stream in the Rozsutec Mts. (Tirjaková 1997 c); at several localities of the Hron river including its spring area (Tirjaková 1998, 2006); in the Morava river (Balá&zcaron;i & Matis 2002); in the Gidra river (Tirjaková 2003 a); in the Stupavský potok stream (Tirjaková 2003 b); in tree holes from oak-hornbeam forests in the Malé Karpaty Mts. and Trnavská pahorkatina hills (Holecová et al. 2005; Tirjaková & V&dcaron;a&ccaron;ný 2005); in the Zbojský potok and Uli&ccaron;ka streams (Novikmec et al. 2007); in the Ipe&lcaron; river (Balá&zcaron;i 2010); in a hypertrophic water reservoir near the town of Modra (Tirjaková 2010); in the Váh river (Tirjaková & V&dcaron;a&ccaron;ný 2013 a); and in the Zubrovica stream (Tirjaková & V&dcaron;a&ccaron;ný 2013 b).
