JSB hasvery defferent objective from the objectives of youth organizations existing at that period. The difference is seen from its Articles of Association stating that JSB has the objective to grow awareness among its members and maintain the sentiment of their calling to come forward as leaders and guides for their people. That objective can be manifested and proved by its members most of them are Minangkabau people come forward as national figures such as Muhammad Hatta, Muhammad Yamin, and etcetera. Through the vessel of organization and thoughts of its figures, JSB its movement direction experiencing transformation or changes, initially very local and area-oriented in its characteristic then it became nationally Indonesia in tis characteristic and it also happened at the naming of the organization initially Jong Sumatranen Bond changed into Pemuda Sumatera. The changes in the movement had appeared since its initial development trying to form federation with Jong Java, then at first Youth Congress in 1926 made the efforts to make Malay language becoming the Unifying Language, and firmly at the Second Youth Congress in 1928, Malay language, most used by Sumatera peoples, became Indonesian language as the unifying and integration language, and last fusing it with other youth organizations became Indonesia Muda in 1931 as the manifestation of JSBÂ?s concern on the unity and integrity of Indonesian youth. So, in its movement, JSB pioneered by Minangkabau student youths, is still consistent, from its initial objective for the progress of Sumatra, finally for the interest of Indonesian Nation, not for the interest of certain tribe or certain area., Boedi Oetomo (BO) is movement organization established by STOVIA student youth on May 20th, 1908.
