Pada pemilihan moda terdapat berbagai faktor pengaruh yang bersifat kuantitatif maupun kualitatif, salah satunya faktor kenyamanan berkendara. Faktor kenyamanan berkendara yang didefinisikan pada penelitian ini lebih kepada pengaruh guncangan akibat dari perkerasan dan pengaruh pengemudi. Penelitian ini untuk mencari kemauan membayar lebih mahal terhadap kenyamanan berkendara untuk kereta dibandingkan dengan bus yang didefinisikan sebagai nilai Willingness to pay (WTP). Nilai WTP diperoleh melalui desain penelitian eksperimental dengan memberikan hypothetical situation kepada responden yang mementingkan kenyamanan ketika seluruh atribut yang membedakan antara bus dan kereta adalah sama kecuali faktor kenyamanan berkendara. Pemilahan data sahih untuk mendapatkan nilai WTP menggunakan statistik deskriptif. Kemudian dilakukan uji normalitas data untuk mengetahui jenis statistik inferensial. Setelah itu dilakukan uji hipotesis deksriptif untuk mengetahui homogenitas populasi. Karena populasi heterogen dilakukan uji hipotesis hubungan dan perbandingan antara nilai WTP terhadap karakteristik responden dan didapatkan karakteristik responden yang mempengaruhi nilai WTP adalah terhadap tingkat pendapatan. Hasil dari analisa menunjukkan responden Jakarta dan Pekanbaru merupakan populasi yang heterogen sehingga didapatkan nilai WTP responden Jakarta untuk pendapatan rendah adalah Rp 2.200,- dan Rp 4.700,- untuk pendapatan tinggi sedangkan nilai WTP untuk responden Pekanbaru untuk pendapatan rendah adalah Rp 2.600,- dan 5.300,- untuk pendapatan tinggi. Dan hasil uji hipotesis komparatif perbedaan nilai WTP antara responden Jakarta dengan responden Pekanbaru berbeda secara signifikan. &lt;hr&gt; &lt;b&gt;ABSTRACT&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br&gt; Modal choice is one of the most important parts of demand model in urban transportation planning. There are several factors that influence the decision, both quantitatively and qualitatively. One of them is riding comfort, which in this research defined as bumpy effect of pavement and driving behavior. This research is aimed at analyzing the comparison of riding comfort of rail-based and road-based mass transportation which is expressed in willingness to pay (WTP) value. WTP value is obtained from experimental design with hypothetical situation given to respondents who prioritize riding comfort over other similar differentiating factors of trains and buses. Data selection to obtain valid WTP values is carried out by using descriptive statistic test. Normality test is used to determine what kind of inferential statistic to be applied, followed by descriptive hypothetical test for population homogeneity. As the population heterogeneous, correlative and comparative hypothetical test are required to obtain between WTP value toward the respondent characteristic which influence the WTP value, and this results income level.
