  • Background: Tuberculosis is a disease that is transmitted by Mycobacterium tuberculosis and spreads through the air from patient droplets. The main challenges in the treatment of tuberculosis are the length of treatment, the complexity of the drug regimen and the incidence of drug side effects (WHO, 2019). Non-compliance with the use of anti-tuberculosis drugs can be influenced by patient characteristics (Mulyana, 2020). Other factors are socioeconomic factors, patient treatment factors, patient behavior factors, patient condition factors, and health service factors (Lam, 2015). Non-adherence to treatment can lead to resistance so that it will aggravate the burden of patients and their disease (Pameswari, 2016). Research purposes:To evaluate the level of compliance and the relationship between patient characteristics and adherence to the use of anti-tuberculosis drugs in adult outpatient at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Research method: Quantitative with total sampling technique. The data obtained were analyzed using chi-square. Research results: Most of the differences in the characteristics of respondents in the intensive and advanced stages compared to only the advanced stages are as follows: age 46-55 years as many as 14 respondents (28%), 9 respondents (33.3%); male gender as many as 28 respondents (56%), 17 respondents (63%); Elementary education as many as 17 respondents (34%), 10 respondents (37%); working as farmers as many as 17 respondents (34%) while in the advanced stage did not work as many as 10 respondents (37%); income of respondents <1.4 million as many as 37 respondents (74%), 23 respondents (85.2%); distance from house to hospital >10 Km as many as 31 respondents (62%), 18 respondents (66.7%); have PMO as many as 35 respondents (70%), 15 respondents (55.6%); advanced stage as many as 27 respondents (54%). Conclusion: The level of compliance is categorized as low as many as 20 respondents (74.1%). There was a significant relationship between gender and PMO with adherence to anti-tuberculosis drug use (p<0.05) and there was no significant relationship between age, education, occupation, income, and distance from home to hospital with adherence to anti-tuberculosis drug use (p>0.05). Recommendation: Future researchers should examine other factors that influence adherence to OAT use in patients with pulmonary TB.
