Daftar Isi:
  • Porphyromonas gingivalis is one of the bacteria that cause periodontal disease. Adhesin and receptor is needed to mediate adhesion of Porphyromonas gingivalis. Major virulence factor of Porphyromonas gingivalis is fimbriae. Lime peel (Citrus aurantifolia) has some component that functions as an antibacterial. The purpose of the present study was to determine the effect of lime peel (Citrus aurantifolia) extract on the adhesion of Porphyromonas gingivalis. Lime peel (Citrus aurantifolia) was extracted by maceration and dilute with distilled water to get a concentration of 2.5%, 5% and 10%. Pure culture of Porphyromonas gingivalis was diluted with physiological saline to obtain 108CFU/ml. The adhesion was determined by measuring the optical density of Porphyromonas gingivalis by using a spectrophotometer 540nm. The results of the adhesion of Porphyromonas gingivalis were analyzed by using one way anova and LSD test. The result of one way anova test showed that the treatment given between groups was significantly different (p<0.05). LSD test showed no significant difference between 0.12% chlorhexidine gluconate and 10% lime peel extract. It is concluded that ability of the bacteria Porphyromonas gingivalis adhesion decrease after the addition of lime peel (Citrus aurantifolia) extract.
