  • This research was purposed to (1) understand the process that has been done by society to attain the ability through food local utilization (2) understand the factors that have a role towards societyâ��s ability through food local utilization. The basic method for this research was descriptive analysis and by using qualitative approach. Selection informans has been done purposively including the people who work on local food production that use tapioca flour as primary ingredient in Srihardono village Pundong Sub-district Bantul District, village officer of Srihardono, and agriculture extension worker in Pundong district region. The result showed that societyâ��s ability appeared in human resource development process by social learning and training, capital utilization process through physical and social capital, decision making process on local food utilization which taken by themselves, collectively or authoritatively. Societyâ��s ability in financial capital utilization process was still weak. The factors that have a role towards societyâ��s ability through local food utilization were collective needs, potency of local resources, social institutionâ��s role and government, and market access.
