AISI 410 steel is used as cutting and noncutting surgical instruments. The use of AISI 410 steel is expected to have a hardness, wear resistance and good corrosion resistance. The weakness of AISI 410 steel is hardness and wear resistance are still low, so that the both properties need to be improved. AISI 410 steel was coated with a mixture of helium-methane to produce DLC coating using plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition. Comparison of the gas mixture ratio were 76% helium and 24% methane. The operation temperature during the growth was 300 &#xC2;&#xB0;C. The deposition parameters were varied by pressure and deposition time. The amount of pressure that were varied 1,4 mbar, 1,6 mbar, 1,8 mbar and 2 mbar with a deposition time at each pressure for 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 hours. Vickers micro hardness testing was used to determine the hardness using 10 gram load and indentation time 10 secons. Oghosi wear testing machine was used to determine the specific wear with a load of 2.12 kg, abrasion speed of 0.25 m/s and a time of 10 secons abrasion. Principle three electrode cell with 0.9 wt.% NaCl solution is used to determine the corrosion rate. Effect of deposition time and pressure are the amount of carbon deposition, diffusion depth, the amount of coating gas, voltage, bonding layers and impurities. The maximum hardness are obtained 287,5 VHN for deposition pressure of 1,6 mbar at deposition time for 4 hours. The minimum specific wear are obtained 2,19 mm3/kg.m for deposition pressure of 1,8 mbar at deposition time for 4 hours.
