In theprocessof the birth of Pancasila, its gestation, the notion nationalist connotes with the secular group vis-a-vis the religious one. Especially in the First Sila/Principle that seemsonly accommodatethe monotheistic religion and not welcoming the various indigenous beliefs through out Indonesia. This paper question this issueand also address the challengesfaces in mainstreaming Pancasila in contemporary Indonesia. It argues that in order toface up the challenges, a progressive argument is required, not a defensive tune and P4 style like in New Order era.
