The aim of this study is to figure out the roles teacher use in teaching English based on 2013 curriculum. This study is qualitative method. The framework of teacher's role is promoted by Harmer (2001 & 2007), there are nine roles: controller, organizer, assessor, prompter, participant, resource, tutor, observer, and facilitator. The instruments used were observation, documentation, and interview. The result shows that teachers only employed roles as controller, assessor, prompter and tutor. The first teacher implemented controller, assessor and prompter. Meanwhile, the second teacher implemented controller, assessor, prompter and tutor. In addition, the most frequent role used by both of teachers are controller and assessor. Moreover, the finding of this study shows that teacher did not use roles, namely, organizer, participant, resource, observer and facilitator as stated by Harmer for active learning classroom, 2013 curriculum. As further recommendation, it is best to look out English teacher role with another curriculum.
