  • The aim of this research was to identify H9 subtype Avian Influenza Virus from live bird markets in Surabaya. This research was located at Poultry Disease Laboratory of Professor Nidom Foundation in Surabaya. This research has been conducted since January to July 2018. This research use tracheal and cloacal swab samples that were inoculated to 9-11 days old Specific Antibody Negative (SAN) embryonated chicken eggs, then incubated at 37oC temperature for three days. At the fourth day, the allantoic fluid were harvested and used in Hemagglutination (HA) test and Hemagglutination Inhibition (HI) test using antisera of H9. HA test was conducted to detect the presence of microorganisms which contains hemagglutinin protein such as avian influenza virus. Samples that showed titer exceed 22 were continued to HI test using antisera of H9. This research showed result that 27 samples out of 560 samples (4.82%) were identified as H9 subtype avian influenza virus with 24 samples found in 2016, 1 sample found in 2017 and 2 samples found in 2018. Due to the presence of the virus, further research using Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) and Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) needs to be done in order to confirm the presence of the virus.
