Researches show that breastfeeding is associated with reduced risk of otitis media, diarrhea, lower respiratory tract infections and necrotizing enterocolitis. Hence, WHO recommends mothers to give exclusive breast feeding on which infants are merely breastfed only for the first 6 months, without taking anything else. In fact, knowledge about exclusive breastfeeding is still limited. The aim of this study is to obtain the knowledge level of post-partum mothers on the importance of exclusive breastfeeding in H. Adam Malik General Hospital in 2010. This method of this study is cross-sectional which took post-partum mothers as participants in this study. This study was conducted from August to October 2010, in Rindu B Room, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, H. Adam Malik General Hospital. The sampling technique carried out is consecutive sampling in which the number of sample-size is determined by total sampling method. Data analysis was performed using SPSS program.
