  • Chronic kidney disease (CKD) has been one of the global burden disease that causes 850,000 deaths annually.. One of the renal replacement therapy in end stage renal disease of CKD is Hemodialysis. Health-related quality of life is an important determinant of treatment effectiveness in hemodialysis. Various studies conducted to assess and learn things that can improve the patient’s quality of life. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between duration of hemodialysis with the quality of life of CKD patients in RSUP H. Adam Malik. This study is an analytic descriptive study with cross sectional approach. The sample was selected based on total sampling from patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) in RSUP H. Adam Malik Hemodialysis Unit on June-September 2011 that fulfilled the criteria for inclusion. The data was collected using interviews based on the WHO-QOL questionnaire and analyzed using the chi-square method. The results of this study obtained the proportion of patients who had undergone hemodialysis less than 8 months as many as 25 people (47.2%), whereas hemodialysis who had undergone more than 8 months as many as 28 people (52.8%). There was no significant relationship between duration of hemodialysis with the quality of life of patients in the fourth domain, both associated with aspects of physical health (p = 0.445), psychological (p = 0.119), social relationships (p = 0.750), and the environment (p = 0.374). The conclusion of this study is there was no significant impact between duration of hemodialysis and quality of life of CKD patients in RSUP H. Adam Malik.
