This transportation development (ring road) is very influential on the morphology of the City of Padangsidimpuan and this is seen from the extent of land converted. Therefore, it is interesting to do a study based on a theme about the model describing the process of changing the pattern and structure of urban space. In conducting this study, scientific steps and descriptive research method in the form of combination between rational approach were used and their suitability for the object of study. The conclusion drawn from the result of this study is that the City of Padangsidimpuan belongs to &#x201C;Over Bounded City&#x201D;. Viewed from the function of this city as a service center (retail), the form of urban space structure of the City of Padangsidimpuan belongs to Monocentric City. The pattern of its urban development does not show an even development to the outer sides of city center. Based on the 2004 RTRW (regional spatial plan) of the City of Padangsidimpuan, it is estimated that in 2015, the use of urban space along both sides of the ring road of the City of Padangsidimpuan will have been deverged from the use of urban space planned. The land use dominating the corridor of this ring road up to the early of 2010 or at the end of observation time was the group of commercial activities, residential areas and governmental institutions. The change of land use in the development implementation is unavoidable. The change occurred due to two things such as the need to meet the increasing needs of community and the need related to the increasing demands for a better quality of life. With respect to the physical development of the City of Padangsidimpuan from 2000 to 2010, spatially, the pattern of its development tended to fill the existing road pattern that the form of the city followed the road pattern (constantly linear) and the development of residential areas became leap-frog development and infill development.
