- This research aims to find out and examine : (1) The relationship between the effectiveness of interpersonal communication and the form at self-concept through adjustment at the individual who experiences the non-congenital physical defect in an early adulthood; and (2) Differences of quality of the effectiveness of interpersonal communication, the adjustment, and the form of selfconcept between research subjects. The subject of research is the sufferer of non-congenital physical defect in an early adulthood registered as a member of the foundation of physical defect founding in Karya Jasa Utama, Jalan Marelan VII, Lingkungan IV, number 54, Medan, North-Siunatera. The method of research is survey through co relational analyze technique, with ex post facto. The sample of research is based on the purposive sampling. The process of collecting data is conducted by questionnaire, technique of nonstructural interview, and technique of participant observation. The data analysis is employed by quantitative method combined with interpretation and description. Quantitatively, the technique of data analysis is the analysis of non-parametric statistic. It applies the formulation of Rank-Spearman correlation with tied observation and formulation of U Mann-Whitney Test. The result of research shows that : (1) There is a strong relation between the effectiveness of interpersonal communication, the adjustment, and the form of self-concept, and so does between the adjustment and the form of self-concept in the non-congenital physical defect in an early adulthood; and (2) There are very significant differences of quality of the effectiveness of interpersonal communication, the adjustment, and the form of self-concept between the research subjects who have very significant differences of quality of the effectiveness of interpersonal communication, the adjustment, and the form of self-concept. The other finding of the research show that (1) There is not accessibility right (physical and non-physical) enough on the research area; (2) There is lack of positive and supporting attitude of community and family (significant others) to non-congenital physical defect in an early adulthood; and (3) Perception of defect degree category (light, medium, heavy) of the respondent are influenced by the meaning of missing body part that correlates with respondent need to it.
