Guided Reading Strategy in Reading Comprehension

This is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) with two cycles. The participants of the research were 41 students. The research was conducted for 4 meetings in each cycle. The data were collected through test, observation, and interview. After analyzing the data, the researcher found that the application of Guided Reading Strategy had better improved the students&#xE2;&#x20AC;&#x2122; reading comprehension ability. The students&#xE2;&#x20AC;&#x2122; average score before the application of Guided Reading Strategy was only 44.39. Then, it improved at the end of cycle I and II, 50.44 and 68.80. The improvement was influenced by some factors (1) teaching and learning activities in reading class that let the students to be independent learners in solving their problems in reading, (2) reinforcement from teacher that gave great influenced to the students to improve their reading strategy, (3) reading strategies that they know will help them in comprehending reading text. In short, the application of Guided Reading Strategy in improving students&#xE2;&#x20AC;&#x2122; reading comprehension ability could give better improvement of students&#xE2;&#x20AC;&#x2122; reading comprehension. &#xC2;&#xA0; Key Words: Improving, Reading, Guided Reading Strategy &#xC2;&#xA0; STRATEGI MEMBACA TERPANDU UNTUK MEMAHAMI TEKS BACAAN &#xC2;&#xA0; Abstrak Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam memahami teks bacaan bahasa inggris dan mengetahui faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi kemampuan siswa dalam memahami teks bacaan melalui Guided Reading Strategy (Strategi Membaca Terpandu) di kelas VIII SMP N 21 Pekanbaru. Penenlitian ini merupakan penelitian tindakan kelas yang dilaksanakan selama 4 kali pertemuan untuk setiap siklusnya. Data dikumpulkan melalui tes, observasi, dan interview. Setelah menganalisa data, peneliti menemukan bahwa penerapan Guided Reading Strategy (Strategi Membacara Terpandu) telah berhasil meningkatkan kemampuan membaca siswa. Nilai rata-rata siswa sebelum penerapan Guided Reading Strategy (Strategi Membaca Terpandu)&#xC2;&#xA0; hanya 44.39%. Kemudian, kemampuan siwa meningkat pada akhir siklus pertama dan kedua, 50.44 and 68.80. Peningkatan tersebut dipengaruhi oleh beberapa faktor (1) kegiatan belajar dan mengajar didalam memahami teks bacaan memberikan kesempatan kepada para siswa untuk menjadi pelajar yang mandiri, sehingga mereka mampu menyelesaikan permasalahan didalam memahami teks bacaan. (2) penguatan dari guru yang memberikan pengaruh yang besar kepada para siswa untuk meningkatkan strategi mereka dalam mebaca. (3) Strategi-strategi yang mereka ketahui membantu mereka dalam memahami teks bacaan.
