  • This study is part of the study with title "Monitoring drug resistance in subjects with P. falciparum and P.vivax malaria in Kalimantan and Sulawesi, Indonesia" which the objective to assess the efficacy and safety of Dihydroartemisinin - Piperaquine (DHP) in patients with malaria vivax in Kalimantan and Sulawesi. The design of study was a cross-sectional study and prospective evaluation of 87 subjects the subject with P. vivax. Efficacy and safety of DHP assessed by WHO criteria. The analysis showed that the efficacy of DHP by Intention To Treat (ITT) on Day 28 (D28) after DHP treatment was 94.3% (95% CI: 87.2 - 97.5) and D42 was 92% (95% CI: 87.2 - 97.5). DHP efficacy in Per Protocol (PP) in D28 was 100% and D42 was 97.6% (95% CI: 91.5 - 99.3). Parasitemia Clearance 100% was reached on Day 2. 100% free of Gametocytes clearance 100% occured on D7. Fever clearance 100% occurred on D7. Clinical clearance never reach 100% post-DHP treatment. The incidence of adverse event were sweating, anorexia and diarrhea, but mild and tolerable. Based on the study results that DHP efficacy and safety in accordance with WHO criteria and can be recommended for widespread use.
