  • In every learning process there are reading and writing activities. SDN Jatimulyo 1 Malang has implemented learning to read and write for their students. SDN Jatimulyo 1 Malang in the process of learning to read and write there are several obstacles so research needs to be done. This study aims to : (1) learning to read and write in frade 1 students at SDN Jatimulyo 1 Malang, (2) Studens abilities in learning to read and write, (3) constraints and effprs to learn to read and write at grade 1 students at SDN Jatimulyo 1 Malang. In this study using qualitative research. Data sources used by principals, teacher and students grade 1 in SDN Jatimulyo 1 Malang. Research techniques used are observation, interview, questionnaire, documentation and field notes data collection techniques. The research analysis model used Miles and Huberman. The implementation of this research in february 2020. Research results show (1) reading anf writing learning in grade 1 students has been going well but studenst are still having difficulty reading and writing. (2) the ability to learn to read and wtite has progressed from odd semester. (3) the obstacles that arise lie in students who are still having difficulty reading and writing so that it is difficult to follow the learning. Efforts made by school programs such as literacy movements, mobile libraries and RPP. Suggestions from this study the analysis of learning to read and write in grade 1 students at SDN Jatimulyo 1 Malang create a pleasant learning atmosphere provide stimulus to students so students can be interested in reading texts and schools and teachers can create media for learning to read and write more interesting.
