  • Variation and trends in extreme rainfall events alleged as one of the effects of global warming phenomenon started to get a lot of attention. Global warming and its association with the extreme conditions of rain in some areas of Java and Sumatra are discussed in this paper. The main data used in this study consisted of global air temperature data published by the Australian BoM and monthly rainfall data published by BMKG Jakarta. The main criteria used to determine the threshold value of rainfall extremes is a percentile criterion that includes the 90th percentile (P90), 95th percentile (P95), and 99th percentile (P99). The results obtained showed that the apparent global warming happening, especially since 1980, not simultaneously followed extreme rainfall events in Ciamis, Cilacap, Banyuwangi, Bandar Lampung and Solok. Before theera of global warming (before 1980) is precisely the number of extreme rainfall events far more from those of global warming era (after 1980) in the region of interest in this study.
