This study describes the use of Pocket Chart in improving students’ mastery toward Simple Present Tense of the eighth grade at MTsN Layap Paringin Balangan Regency academic year 2012/2013. The problems in this research are: How is the use of Pocket Chart in improving students’ mastery toward Simple Present Tense? and how is the students’ mastery toward Simple Present Tense by using Pocket Chart? Based on the statement of problems above, this study is supposed to know about the use of Pocket Chart in improving students’ mastery toward Simple Present Tense and how is the students’ mastery toward Simple Present Tense by using Pocket Chart. The populations of this research are an English teacher and 190 students of the eighth grade of MTsN Layap Paringin Balangan Regency academic year 2012/2013, and the sample of this research is 60 students from the population. The data collection used techniques: test, observation, interview and documentary. Data processing in this research is divided into five stages, they are editing, coding, scoring, tabulating and interpreting. Then all of data are analyzed descriptively and qualitative by using inductive method to make conclusion. The result of the research denoted the use of Pocket Chart as a media in teaching Simple Present Tense of the eighth grade students at MTsN Layap Paringin Balangan Regency for the teacher’s skill and knowledge in using Pocket Chart, can be categorized good, based on her planning, preparing materials, time allocation, learning goal, and students condition. Then, for the teacher’s activities in using Pocket Chart with various techniques is good. It can be seen from students’ response that were very interested and enthusiastic in teaching and learning process appropriate with teaching material and purpose of teaching and learning. So, for the eighth grade students’ mastery toward Simple Present Tense is increasing after using Pocket Chart. It can be seen from the mean of the first, second and third test, they are: 58, 17% including in low category, 78, 8% including in good category and 92, 33% including in excellent category.
