AN ANALYSIS OF STUDENTS’ GRAMMATICAL ERRORS IN WRITING DESCRIPTIVE TEXT (A Case Study at Second Grade in MTsN 3 Mataram in Academic Year 2018/2019)

- This study was aimed at analyzing (1) the kinds of grammatical errors in writing descriptive text produced by the students and (2) the possible causes of grammatical errors produced by the second grade students in MTsN 3 Mataram. This study was conducted on the second grade students at MTsN 3 Mataram in academic year 218/219. All of second grade students at MTsN 3 Mataramas population and the sample consist of 46 students by applying simple random sampling technique with descriptive method. A test is the instrument that is used. From the data it was found the grammatical errors produced by the students are 20,7% students produced errors in spelling, 20% students produced errors in word choice, 17% students produced errors in capitalization, 14,8% students produced errors in word order, 8,2% students produced errors in omit word, 5,4% students produced errors in add a word, 4,6% students produced errors in meaning not clear, 4% students produced errors in verb tense, 2,2% students produced errors in punctuation, 1,1% students produced errors in word form, 0,9% students produced errors in singular-plural, 0,9% students produced errors in incomplete sentence, and 0,2% students produced errors in article.Meanwhile, the possible causes of grammatical errors produced by the students are interlingual errors by 55,6%, interlingual errors by 25,2%, and context of learning by 19,2% .
