- This thesis entitled “An Analysis of students’ Error in Writing Recount text: A Case Study of the Tenth Grade Students at SMA NW Narmada in Academic Year 2017/ 2018”. This study was aimed to find the error that students made in writing recount text and the possible causes of error made by the students. There were 116 students in this study as population. However, there was one class (XA) as a sample of the whole population. There were 30 students as sample in class XA. The data analyzed by using qualitative method. In collecting the data, this study applied two instruments, test and questionnaire. It shows that 131 total of grammatical error made by the tenth grade students. The highest error was misformation errors or 51.1% and there were 11 students or 8.39% made errors in error of addition. It is also shows that the possible causes of errors have contrast result between writing test and questionnaire. It is concluded by students’ answer in the questionnaire, that shows they are not having any problems in distinguishing between past tense and present tense. And the result of writing test shows the most problematic error made by the students is distinguishing between past tense and present tense. Based on the data finding in this research concluded that the errors in writing recount text happened because of several factors such as carelessness, first language interference and translation.
