  • The research about gastropods diversity in Marabombang mangrove area, village of Watang Suppa, district of Suppa, regency of Pinrang, South Sulawesi. South Sulawesi has been conducted in November-December 2012. The aim of this research was to know the diversity of gastropod species. Samplings of gastropods were taken from three different stations. Gastropod data sampling were conducted using transect-squares with 1x1 m plot. One station consists of one transect which is 30 m in lenght and set up perpendicularly. Each transect divide into three sampling point. Gastropod data were taken in every sampling point with six replicates systematic randomly. Ecological indices including: species diversity, eveness, dominance, and distribution, calculated respectively. The result showed that the gastropod species in Marabombang mangrove area consist of 22 species and 11 families. The most dominant species is Cerithidea cingulata which density is 36,39 individu/m2. The result showed that diversity index in every station, is low, ranging from 0,50 to 0,75. Ecological indices value indicates community stabilities is low, hence water condition in Mara???bombang coastal has been polluted.
