- The aim of the study was to find out the riskfactors of the traffic accident in Makassar city in 2002-2004. The study was a control case study in which the severely injured was 59 people and 94 people were slightly injured as a control. They were the sufferers of traffic accident treated in the hospital. All of them are Makassar residents. The data were analyzed by using chi square and logistic regression. The result of the study indicate that the driver???s age (OR=2,56,Cl= 1,25-5,19), driver???s behavior (OR=2,71, Cl=1,31-5,59), speed (OR=2,10,Cl= 1,08-4,09), time of accident (OR= 1,86, Cl= 0,94-3,66) and traffic density (OR= 1,28, Cl= 0,66-2,51) are also risk factors but insignificant statistically. Of the four factors, only age is the most dominant factor risk the traffic accident in which p=0,008 is smaller than 0,05. it is suggested that age should be accounted for in driving motor vehicles as one of the efforts to reduce morbidity and mortality rates due to traffic accident.
