  • Maize is one of the food crops that are very important to the people of Indonesia. Efforts to increase the productivity of maize can not be separated from efforts to maintain soil fertility, particularly in dryland which has a sloping topography. This research aims to study the productivity of maize using hedgrow on dryland in Tanah Karaeng village, Manuju Distric of Gowa Regency in South Sulawesi Province. Hedgrow cropping system used in the form of plant applications gamal (Gliricidia sepium) - elephant grass (Penisetum purpureum) as a plant hedgrow (fence) for corn (Zea mays L.). Method is using a randomized block design (RBD) with two replications. Farming feasibility analysis using R / C ratio method. The results showed that hedgrow (gamal-elephant grass and only with gamal) is able to increase the productivity of maize and economic benefits for farmers compared with no hedgrow. But hedgrow with one or more plant showed no difference in terms of productivity and economic benefits. R/C ratio showed that young cob corn farming provides economic income more profitable than dried corn.
