  • This research disscusses the modes of adaptation in Confessions of a Shopaholic film by P.J. Hogan. The obective of this research is to reveal how the modes of adaptation of Confession of a Shopaholic novel by Sophie Kinsella adapted into P.J. Hogan’s Confessions of a Shopaholic film. The researcher applied modes of adaptation by Dudley Andrew in borrowing, intersecting and fidelity of transformation mode in plot of the story in novel and film by using structuralism approach. Moreover, the researcher also applied qualitative method since the researcher gave detailed description and explanation in the research. The data sources are from both Confessions of a Shopaholic novel by Sophie Kinsella and P.J. Hogan’s Confessions of a Shopaholic film. After comparing the data, the researcher then classified the data found based on the mode of adaptation in borrowing and intersecting. The result of analysis shows the differences and similiraties in Confessions of a Shopaholic novel and film. In borrowing, the researcher finds the basic idea of plot in Confessions of a Shopaholic film from Confessions of a Shopaholic novel, this mode used to keep the idea of the original work exist in adaptation. Besides the writer also finds intersecting mode of plot in Confessions of a Shopaholic film from Confessions of a Shopaholic novel, this mode used to know the story different with the original story. While fidelity of transformation mode use to reproduce something essential about the original text that is reproduced in the film.
