The characterization of compound chitosan, chitosan-vanillin and the complex compound wase done using UV-Vis spectrophotometer to review the electronic spectra measurements and to acknowledge the functional group using FT-IR instrument. The compound of chitosan, chitosan schiff base, and their complexes were tested its antibacterial&#xD; activity toward Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus bacteria by paper disc diffusion method. The electronic transition indicated the absorption of azomethine group were showed at 306 nm and 310 nm respectively to review the chitosanvanilin compound and complex of Cu(II)-chitosan-vanilin. Absorption of d-d transition were showed at 786 nm to review complex of Cu(II)-chitosan-vanilin. Result of FT-IR characterization indicate the azomethine group have been formed were showed at 1635.64 cm-1 and 1635.64 cm-1 respectively for chitosan-vanilin and complex of Cu(II)-chitosan-vanilin, meanwile characterization indicate the compound complexes have been formed were showed at 339.47 cm-1 and 478.35 cm-1. The chitosan schiff base and their complexes have antibacterial activities bigger than the pure chitosan. Result of antibacterial showed that the compounds synthesized power tend not to have antibacterial activity when compared with pure chitosan, vanilin, solvents, and CuSO4.5H2O.</description><date>2016-10-03</date><type>Thesis:Thesis</type><type>PeerReview:NonPeerReviewed</type><type>Book:Book</type><language>ind</language><rights>cc_public_domain</rights><identifier>http://repository.unsri.ac.id/17309/1/RAMA_47201_08121003003_0009117201_0026036901_01_front_ref.pdf</identifier><type>Book:Book</type><language>ind</language><rights>cc_public_domain</rights><identifier>http://repository.unsri.ac.id/17309/2/RAMA_47201_08121003003_0009117201_0026036901_02.pdf</identifier><type>Book:Book</type><language>ind</language><rights>cc_public_domain</rights><identifier>http://repository.unsri.ac.id/17309/3/RAMA_47201_08121003003_0009117201_0026036901_03.pdf</identifier><type>Book:Book</type><language>ind</language><rights>cc_public_domain</rights><identifier>http://repository.unsri.ac.id/17309/4/RAMA_47201_08121003003_0009117201_0026036901_04.pdf</identifier><type>Book:Book</type><language>ind</language><rights>cc_public_domain</rights><identifier>http://repository.unsri.ac.id/17309/5/RAMA_47201_08121003003_0009117201_0026036901_05.pdf</identifier><type>Book:Book</type><language>ind</language><rights>cc_public_domain</rights><identifier>http://repository.unsri.ac.id/17309/6/RAMA_47201_08121003003_0009117201_0026036901_06_ref.pdf</identifier><type>Book:Book</type><language>ind</language><rights>cc_public_domain</rights><identifier>http://repository.unsri.ac.id/17309/7/RAMA_47201_08121003003_0009117201_0026036901_07_lamp.pdf</identifier><identifier> SEMBIRING, RINI BR and Hidayati, Nurlisa and Elfita, Elfita (2016) SINTESIS DAN KARAKTERISASI KOMPLEKS KITOSAN-VANILIN DENGAN ION LOGAM Cu2+ SERTA APLIKASINYA SEBAGAI SENYAWA ANTIBAKTERI.
