Dalam praktek spasial, ruang publik yang tidak berfungsi secara efektif
ditransformasikan oleh masyarakat menjadi ruang yang digunakan secara kolektif.
Masyarakat mendasarkan proses perancangan ruang kolektif pada budaya
setempat agar ruang tersebut dapat berfungsi secara efektif. Selama proses
transformasi ini, para penggagas bernegosiasi dengan kepentingan-kepentingan
publik yang diinterupsinya. Melalui negosiasi tersebut, diperoleh order kolektif
bagi para pelaku ruang. Ruang yang dihasilkan berupa ruang dengan batasan fisik
yang cair dan lemah. Relasi sosial antar pelaku di ruang kolektif menghasilkan
jarak yang mendefinisikan batasan ruang. Ruang kolektif ini lalu menjadi ruang
yang membuka kesempatan seluas-luasnya bagi partisipasi publik dalam
operasinya.

<b>ABSTRACT</b><br>
In spatial practice, the ineffective public space is transformed by people to
be used collectively. People make their own design for this collective space based
on local culture. During the transformation, the initiators have had some
negotiations with the other actors because of their interruption of public space.
Result from those negotiations are several collective orders for the whole
collective space?s actors. Characters of the collective space are weak and fluid
physical boundary. Social relations between the actors create social distance as the
definition of space. This collective space then become an opened space for
